B.C. court approves $5M settlement in ReconAfrica securities class action
The B.C. Supreme Court has approved a $5,075,000 settlement of a class action concerning allegations that Calgary-based oil company ReconAfrica negligently indicated planned fracking in Namibia, even though it was not clear that Namibia would permit fracking, according to a release by law firm Berger Montague.

In judgments that clarify the jurisdictional boundaries between the Federal Court and the Tax Court in tax disputes, the Supreme Court of Canada has rejected separate appeals by two Canadian companies who challenged how their taxes were assessed by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

A judge in British Columbia has quashed a decision by the Environmental Appeal Board (EAB) on an air emissions permit for a composting facility, ruling that the board and its chair demonstrated a “reasonable apprehension of bias” during the hearing process.

Mobilité Infra Québec : Empowering transportation infrastructure development in the province
On May 9, 2024, the Province of Quebec introduced Bill 61, An Act enacting the Act respecting Mobilité Infra Québec and amending certain provisions relating to shared transportation. Bill 61 establishes Mobilité Infra Québec, a legal entity that would be entrusted by the government to carry out, at the government’s request, the opportunity analysis, planning and implementation of complex transportation projects, all with a view to sustainable mobility.
