COVID-19 Forces Virtual Taxpayer Advocacy Panel Meetings

By Theresa Schliep · 2020-03-17 15:33:06 -0400

The Internal Revenue Service on Tuesday scheduled teleconference meetings of Taxpayer Advocacy Panel committees, in lieu of physical hearings the agency recently canceled, citing limited government travel due to the novel coronavirus.

The IRS will host virtual hearings of its Taxpayer Assistance Center Project Committee, Special Projects Committee and Tax Forms and Publications Project Committee at 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on March 23 and March 24, according to agency notices.

The IRS will hold teleconference hearings of its Taxpayer Communications Project Committee, Toll-Free Phone Line Project Committee and Notices and Correspondence Project Committee on March 26 and March 27, also at 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, the agency said.

People interested in attending the teleconference meetings should notify the IRS in advance, according to the notices.

The IRS had originally scheduled physical meetings to discuss customer service, but canceled them on March 12.
