NJ Bill Seeks To Extend Filing Deadlines Because Of COVID-19

New Jersey would automatically extend the gross income tax and corporation business tax filing deadlines if the federal government extends the IRS due date because of the new coronavirus, under a bill recently introduced in the state Senate.

S.B. 2300 would automatically extend the deadline to file gross income and corporation business tax returns to the date established by the Internal Revenue Service for federal returns, but no later than June 30. The bill would also extend the deadline for taxpayers required to make quarterly estimated payments if the federal government makes an extension.

State Sens. Patrick Diegnan Jr., D-South Plainfield, and Paul Sarlo, D-Wood-Ridge, introduced the bill Monday. An identical bill, A.B. 3841, passed unanimously in the state Assembly on Monday.
