NC Extends Tax Payment, Filing Deadline Amid COVID-19

The North Carolina Department of Revenue said in a pair of notices that amid COVID-19 it will conform with the IRS to extend tax payment and filing deadlines until July 15.

The North Carolina Department of Revenue said Friday that it would extend the deadline to file individual, corporate and franchise taxes until July 15. The filing deadline extension does not apply to trust taxes, including sales and use or withholding taxes. The department announced Thursday that it will give taxpayers until July 15 to pay state income taxes.

The department is required by state law to charge interest on unpaid taxes accruing from April 15 until the tax is paid.

Update: This article has been updated to reflect that North Carolina also extended the filing deadline.
