    A real estate developer convicted of giving $500,000 in bribes to then-City Councilmember Jose Huizar in exchange for getting a nonprofit's challenge to a project dropped was sentenced on Friday to six years in prison by a California federal judge, who noted the defendant "readily accepted and exploited" Huizar's corrupt offer.

    A convicted lobbyist-turned-cooperating-witness testified Tuesday in former Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Raymond Chan's federal bribery and racketeering conspiracy trial that Chan did convicted ex-Councilman Jose Huizar's bidding by soliciting political contributions for Huizar's wife in her campaign to succeed her husband from real estate developers with projects pending downtown.
