A California federal judge on Friday refused to toss two putative class actions claiming Apple violated labor laws by not paying retail workers for time spent undergoing bag and gadget checks, and stayed the suits pending the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in a similar case involving Amazon.com Inc. warehouse workers.

An Apple Inc. employee hit the tech giant with a putative class action in California federal court Thursday on behalf of the company's specialists and managers who say they weren't paid overtime wages for extensive time spent clocking in and performing other off-the-clock functions.
