The settlement a group of clowns and entertainers reached with the company they accused of misclassification will have to go through court approval, a New York federal judge ruled, saying the court can't make sure the deal is fair and reasonable as it stands.

Former clowns and entertainers for an entertainment company were misclassified as independent contractors and cheated out of pay for many of the hours they worked after the company made unauthorized deductions from their wages, according to a proposed collective action filed in New York federal court.
